My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia in 2018. At the time, it was in the early stages. However, I have since leaned that the disease starts affecting their brain many years before it becomes obvious that something is 'going on'. Looking back can see their were signs many years before we had a name for it. One of the things that I can look back and see are the constant repetition of old stories. He has always shared fun stories from his childhood and teen years. They were good memoires for him. His family, his friends, his school were all significant. But I noticed that it became all he would talk about. Sometimes I would be frustrated and tell him "You spend all your time living in the past, you are missing out on making memories with me now." It was a safe place for him, the past, his memories. So it seemed fitting to call this Living Their Memories.
I've learned a lot over the last few years. Some things from research, some things the hard way. I hope that you gain some knowledge from me and that you might see some of the humor in our daily life. For while it is often hard, there are time of joy and laughter. It's a choice.
